BIA Fall Fest
A night of food, drink, and friends
The Fall Fest is held in the parking lot of Christ the King when the weather cooperates, and in the gym when it does not. Your entry cost of $10 gets you food and beer all night. We serve an Oktoberfest beer on draft and have coolers full of your other favorites, in addition to a nice selection of wines. The BIA team works hard to cook up fresh brats and hot dogs all night. Add in good music and good company and you have a night to remember.
The BIA hosts the annual Fall Fest around the last Friday in September
Spring Clean and Green
Towards the end of April each year the BIA hosts the Spring Clean and Green. We meet at Cosme Park by the 91st Street train station starting at 9:00 AM. Bags, gloves, and trash pickers are provided to all our eager volunteers. Groups then head into the woods and other areas to pickup trash. This is a great event to bring your kids to, show them how good it feels to help take care of the world we live in, to see our beautiful forest preserve, and have a great time doing it.
The BIA typically provides hot dogs, snacks, and drinks as well.
See and Ski
Invigorating Local Activity
The Beverly Improvement Association in connection with Alderman Matt O’Shea and the Cook County Forest Preserve District invites you to enjoy skiing in the Dan Ryan’s Woods on Sunday afternoons in the Winter. Of course this will only be held when there is sufficient snow to ski, about 4 inches on the ground. We have arranged to meet at 1 p.m. at Beverly Bike and Ski, 9121 S. Western Avenue. Paul Weise, the owner, will have hot chocolate ready to take the chill out of the air.
There is no charge for this event as you own the Woods and they are yours to use. The Woods are absolutely gorgeous in winter so, even if you do not want to ski, come and walk the woods and see what a great treasure that we have in our own backyard. Then go back to Beverly Bike and Ski for a cup of hot chocolate. Encourage your friends to come. If you would like to cross country ski and have not, rent some skis and give it a try. You can rent cross-country skis, boots, and poles right in the neighborhood from Beverly Bike and Ski for $15 for the day and $25 for the weekend. They also have snowshoes available at the same prices.
Remember if you can walk, you can cross country ski. Don’t spend the winter cooped up with cabin fever. Get out and enjoy yourself. Remember we will be meeting at 1 p.m. on Sundays in the winter at Beverly Bike and Ski if there is 4 inches of snow or more on the ground.
The Beverly Improvement Association sponsors an annual Santa’s Workshop a Saturday in December at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. This event is for the young children of our neighborhood providing them with crafts, games, pictures with Santa and food. We have Santa and Santa’s elves, students from Kellogg and Christ The King, help complete the projects and our guests and volunteers both have a great time.
Movie in the Park
The BIA sponsors a Movie in Kellogg field every June at the end of the school year for the neighborhood. Families come with chairs and blankets and enjoy chatting with while the kids play in the field and at the playground. Some come with dinner and some with snacks but at dusk the movie begins and one and all settle down to enjoy a family friendly film.
Beverly Bike Ride
Fall in Beverly
Fall will be in full color when you join your neighbors for a short but beautiful bike ride along the Major Taylor Bike Trail from 91st Street to the north end of the trail at 81st Street, a round trip distance of 2.5 miles. We arrange through the alderman to have Chicago police for the event. The trail crosses 87th street at Damen which has a stop light so you can bring younger children on their smaller bikes. Paul Weiss from Beverly Bike and Ski at 91st Western will be there to help with minor tuneups. If you are coming from a distance, there is plenty of parking.
The BIA will provide light refreshments. This trail is another gem in our star studded neighborhood so you should come and enjoy a nice Sunday ride on the trail.
